A 39-YEAR-OLD man died as a result of acute alcohol intoxication, the coroner has been told.

John Michael Eldergill, of Longmead Road, Paignton, was found dead at his home address on October 13.

There were numerous empty vodka bottles nearby, the inquest was told.

The South Devon coroner opened and adjourned an inquest into his death but heard there are no suspicious circumstances.

Wounding charge denied

THE managing director of a nightclub business will stand trial accused of glassing a man in Cafe Mambo in Torquay.

Entrepreneur Paul John Fisher, 32, of Northwood Avenue, Knaphill, near Woking, denies unlawfully wounding 22-year-old Mario Montinaro, in the early hours of May 3.

Fisher was committed to Exeter Crown Court for an administrative hearing on November 23.

His trial is likely to take place in the spring.

The defendant is a director of Bed Bar, which has imminent plans to open a new club at the former Pure night spot in Torquay.

Cliff 'fall' man found in chalet

A MAN thought to have fallen over a cliff was found drunk in the wrong chalet, Brixham coastguard reported.

A major search involving Berry Head coastguard, Torbay coastguard, both Torbay lifeboats, police and the police helicopter that was launched after reports the holidaymaker had gone missing from Landscove Holiday Park, Brixham, at just after 9am on Sunday.

A coastguard spokesman said: "All units were stood down when the man was located in another chalet. Apparently, he had drunk to many ales the night before."

An ambulance was requested to check on the man.

Biker hurt

A MOTORCYCLIST was taken to hospital after a crash in Brixham.

The man lost control of his Sym 50cc bike opposite Prince William Court on New Road shortly before 8am on Wednesday, October 24.

His injuries were not life threatening. Police closed the road for a short time while the bike was moved.

Drivers on strike

SOME South Devon bus routes will be affected as union members working for First Devon and Cornwall go on strike tomorrow.

The bus company said the 24-hour walk out will affect all First depots in Devon and Cornwall.

The RMT said the action followed the breakdown of talks over pay. The bus company says it remains willing to talk to union bosses.
