Almighty cod leaves old record without a prayer
PAIGNTON SAC's cod record hasn't just been broken – it's been smashed to smithereens!
Steve Underwood came back to the club with a cod of 42lbs 3oz 10dr, caught while fishing over a mid-Channel wreck around 15 miles south-east of Start Point
Spare a thought then for Ray Nathan, whose even more recent cod of 33-11-10 would have been a record holder at any other time.
Underwood's fish is a staggering 10lbs heavier than the previous record holder, a cod of 32lbs 11oz brought over the side by John Robinson back in 1983.

Paul Millman went boat fishing over the Skerries and found a spotted ray of 5-11-13. He also caught a small-eyed ray of 11-12-0.
Fran Dack showed her versatility by winning the silver fish match arranged by Paignton SAC at Newbarn Farm.
The accomplished sea angler headed the winners list with a fish of 4lbs 12oz.
Second was Richard Scott (4lbs 4oz), third Jeff Martin (4lbs 2oz), fourth Gill Longley (2lbs 14oz) and fifth Bob Bartrum (2lbs 3oz).
Other freswater fish caught by PSAC members are a bream of 3lbs 8oz for Jenny Scott and a common bream of 1lb 4oz for Georgina Keeling, which is a club record.
BRIXHAM SAC's first roving competition of the summer was won by junior Ciaran Farley with a good bull huss of 11-2-11 taken at Scabbacombe.
Farley suffered a shoulder injury recently so this fish must have given him a few painful moments.
Second-place went to Jason Upham with a lesser of 2-8-6.
" It came in rather serenely which, I think, helped him to land something that much bigger than the 6-8lbers he has previously encountered," said proud dad Russell.
TORBAY and Babbacombe ASA member Kevin Hare caught a gilthead bream of 2-14-8 from a shore mark.
