'Anti-social behaviour ruining Torquay'
A MAN who had his car vandalised while visiting his elderly mother in Torquay says anti-social behaviour is ruining the town he once called home.
Martin Lee, 69, left his Citroen Picasso overnight on Bronshill Road, Torquay, only to find the wing mirror smashed the next day.
Mr Lee, who grew up in Torquay, was visiting from his home in Milton Keynes.
He had been worried about leaving his car in the area after reading about a series of car fires in the Ellacombe neighbourhood.

He says mindless acts of petty vandalism are dragging the town down.
He said: "When I left the car I carefully folded the wing mirrors in.
"But when I came back the next day somebody had taken off the back cover and the wires were exposed. Nobody else had their car damaged.
"I was so angry at the mindlessness of it all and the fact I had a 250-mile journey home to come.
"I grew up in Torquay and lived there for 20 years and haven't had a problem when I have come down before.
"But the town is getting worse. I was worried about coming down after all the recent car fires. I just wish I could catch whoever did it."
Mr Lee says he did not tell the police because they have more serious crimes to solve.

“Now let us all pay attention because this short story says it all about our so called criminal justice system. Mr. Lee's suffers from having criminal damage to his car. but, following the new lexicon to re categorize crimes he describes it as" anti social behaviour." He goes on to say that he did not tell the police. Fair enough, they don't want to be worried about "petty crime" So another crime not reported, not recorded. This one, in common with hundreds of others will not be in the next set of crime figures, and we will be re-assured that crime is "down" - or maybe we are wising up a bit?
If we had a worth while newspaper it could of course look behind the PR and the headlines and help to reveal the real levels of crime, but don't hold your breath.”
