Debbie Sleeman, who patrols in Dawlish Warren, Starcross, Kenton and Mamhead, has received the commander's commendation from Supt Jim Nye at a ceremony at South Devon College.

PCSO Sleeman (pictured), who has been in position for around six years, is passionate about her role, said a police spokesman.

Her focus has been based on engaging with youngsters, concentrating on speeding and parking issues and going into local schools.

PCSO Sleeman has also been instrumental in starting a tag rugby squad on her patch for youngsters. "I feel very proud to receive the award. It's nice to get recognition for the hard work I do," she said. "I really enjoy my job as I love meeting people."

She said the cutbacks in the police force have had a knock-on effect to the amount of work PCSOs have to do. "My workload is getting bigger. It's a good job and I love what I do."
