BREAKING NEWS: New South Devon flood alerts issued

THE Environment Agency this afternoon issued a series of Flood Alerts covering South Devon this evening.

The alerts cover Wednesday evening and into the early hours of Thursday morning.

Flooding is possible in the Totnes, Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Dartmouth and Torbay areas as rain continues to sweep across the region.

The EA is also warning of flooding affecting the rivers Teign, Bovey, Avon, Erme, Harbourne and Lemon, and coastal streams from Babbacombe to Kenton and from Bigbury to Dartmouth.

Intense rain is expected during the night, and while it will start to ease as the night progresses, it is not expected to clear completely until midday on Thursday.

Flooding is possible where the ground is already saturated.
