CHILDREN'S author David Lawrence Jones will be meeting and greeting his young fans today.

David, who lives in Torquay, has written a rattling good adventure story for youngsters, with many of the locations based on Torbay places.

The story follows the exploits of Bradley Baker and his time in the parallel world of Pathylon.

David said: "The idea for Bradley Baker's character and the plot were extracted from those original stories I wrote as a child and narrated to my brother Philip.

"The book tells the story of 11-year-old Bradley Baker, who travels from Yorkshire to Devon to stay with his aunt during the school summer holidays.

"His adventures begin when he discovers a sacred coin in the rock pools and is then magically transported via the plughole of his aunt's bath into an arcane world called Pathylon, where he encounters many challenging tasks, unusual creatures and strange new friends."

David started to pen Bradley's first adventure in 2000, and after a number of rewrites he has completed the tome.

In addition to his signing session at Waterstone's in Torquay today from 12pm to 2pm, David will be visiting a selection of South Devon schools, including Ilsham primary.

Craig McArdle, manager of Waterstone's in Torquay, said: "We're really excited about this book. We're hoping it could be one of our big sellers for Christmas.

"It's a very good book — above the sort of quality you often come across from local authors. Initial sales are very good.

"I think David's quite nervous about the whole thing, but he's put a lot of hard work into this book and he's got plans to write more adventures for Bradley."
