A STORMING run from James Bellward stopped Torbay AC claiming a clean sweep of the podium places at the 2010 Oh My Obelisk on Sunday.

South West Road Runner Bellward was a clear winner of the rearranged 10-mile multi-terrain race, leading the chasing pack home by more than a minute to clock the day's quickest time of 1hr 7mins 51secs.

But the next three places all belonged to Torbay runners, with Arran Tocknell (1:08:53) taking the runners-up spot from Peter Monaghan (1:11:49) and Jon Parkinson (1:12:14).

In fact, it was a nip-and-tuck affair between Bellward and Tocknell for the majority of the race, which took runners from Dawlish Leisure Centre through the lanes to Haldon Forest and back again.

However the SWRR man broke clear to win in muddy conditions, while last year's winner Monaghan had to settle for third.

Consolation for Torbay came in the form of a ladies' win for Wendy Urban, who clocked a fine time of 1:21:05 that also earned her 14th overall.

Teignbridge Trotters' Emma Sidebotham was second in 1:32:47.

Two of Sidebotham's club mates also made the overall top ten with good runs. David Tomlin was sixth in 1:16:22 and Daryl Milford was the next man home in 1:17:46.

Brixham Harriers' lone entrant Paul Nicoll bagged a category win — he was the first MV50 runner home in 1:27:49, and 36th overall.

Meanwhile, Torbay's Tessa Hearfield clocked 1:43:15 to win the FV50 class.

South Devon AC's leading runner was Jeremy Cockling in 1:20:01, but he missed out on the top ten by one spot.

HELEN Dyke claimed the runners-up spot in the ladies' race at Sunday's five-mile Fulfords Great West Run.

Dyke completed the two-lap dash around Exmouth's town centre in 30:09, but was almost a minute behind the winner, Exeter Harriers' Katherine Humphreys (29:19).

Teignbridge Trotters' Thomas Burman was South Devon's best overall finisher — he was 16th in 29:14.

Other than Dyke, Torbay's top performers were Kevin Fine (30:09) and Stephen Wilbraham (30:34).

Dartmouth AC's Liam Hassard (32:02) finished well in 33rd, while a six-strong Newton Abbot AC contingent was led home by Ken Tinkler (35:40) in 79th.

Andrew Hammett flew the South Devon AC flag with a time of 49:05.
