HELPING children with behavioural problems turn their lives around has helped a South Devon company and their 'amazing' staff scoop a top business award.

Breakthrough Plus Ltd was one of three companies to compete in the best social enterprise category in this year's South Devon Excellence Awards.

Founded eight years ago, they work with the Breakthrough Transformation Trust, a charity based at the Dartington estate, near Totnes, helping between 75 to 100 youngsters a week improve their behaviour and schooling.

Debbie Dugdall, chief executive, said she and the staff had witnessed 'amazing' changes in some of the youngsters.

"We feel delighted that the hard work done by all the staff — who are doing an amazing job — has been recognised," she said.

"We were never expecting to win. But it gives us even more inspiration to do a lot more for the children and the families we aim to help."

Youngsters are referred to Breakthrough by schools and young offenders units.
