The operator of the English Riviera Observation Wheel will be holding a free firework display for the public on Sunday to celebrate the final day of operation.

The fireworks will be launched by Mellors Group from the Haldon Pier, Torquay Harbour, and spectators are invited to come and watch the display from the observation wheel site at Princess Gardens at 6pm.

"It is now moving to London, but we are liaising closely with Mellors Group about the prospect of the wheel's return next year, this would of course still be subject to the planning process."

James Mellors, company director, said: "The Mellors Group would like to say a big thank you to the people of Torbay. We've really enjoyed our stay here, everyone has made us feel very welcome and we are now working with the council to look at returning for the 2013 season.

"As a small gesture of our thanks, we would like to invite the public and all involved to come and enjoy the display with us at 6pm by the observation wheel on what will be our final operational day in Torquay.

"We look forward to seeing you all on the day."

Carolyn Custerson, chief executive of the English Riviera Tourism Company, said: "With such breathtaking views and a spectacular location, the English Riviera Wheel has already become a really welcome addition to the many attractions the Bay has to offer.

"We look forward to celebrating with them on the evening and hopefully welcoming the wheel back in 2013."
