A SUPERYACHT owned by the second richest man in Mexico berthed at Dartmouth Harbour yesterday.

The 92m luxury craft, the Mayan Queen IV came into Torbay before berthing at the home of the Britannia Royal Naval College and is expected to stay for three days.

Mexican billionaire Alberto Bailleres, 75, owns the superyacht built by Hamburg-based shipwrights Blohm and Voss and has been designed by Tim Heywood.

Billionaire Mr Bailleres is worth a staggering $9.8billion, according to Forbes, making him the 85th richest man in the world.

He is chairman of metals and mining group Industrias Penoles, the leading Latin American producer of refined gold, lead and zinc and reportedly the world's top producer of silver.

He also has interests in upmarket department store chain, El Palacio de Hierro, which are mainly in Mexico City and insurance company Grupo Nacional Provincial S.A.

The boat is piloted by Babbacombe-based Richard Kirkby, who used to pilot Roman Abramovich's super yacht Le Grand Bleu.

Dartmouth Harbour master Captain David White explained the yacht had travelled from Stavanger in Norway before stopping in Dartmouth for three days to stock up on supplies before heading to Tenerife to pick up its owner.

From the Canary Islands the yacht, will go on to the Caribbean climes of Barbados.

Captain White said: "It is a magical yacht. It is out of this world, it is so well finished and equipped."

“What is this story anyway, is it just to annoy us all, like the story about the £2,000,000 house in ilsham marine drive? Stop it HE!”

“So it's only scousers that sell drugs and cause trouble then. I don't suppose anyone born and bred here would ever involve themselves in such things. Yeah right! The real problems are not dealt with properly by the powers that be, unemployment and lack of investment are the biggest problems here. Maybe this guy would like to invest some of his money here.”

“I'm hardly surprised no-one's visiting Torbay if you lot are a fair indication of the kind of reception a guest might expect.”

“Well none of us are really surprised that Torquay is not attracting many super yachts these days, just look at the state of our high street .
Even the pound shop has now been overtaken by the 98
pence shop in Union Square. Its about time the council and greedy shop landlords got a grip and at least attempt to attract more quality businesses to our area before our lovely town dies altogether.”
