Book launch is memorial to author
MUSIC lovers will be gathering next week for the launch of a new book about the history of music in Torbay.
Making Music in Torbay — Celebrating 140 Years was written by Malvern Cooke, secretary of the South Devon Choir for more than 20 years.
The book tells the story of the choir since its first meetings in 1871.
It also contains much historical information about other musical organisations in the resort during that period.

Sadly, Malvern died in May, just after having seen the book off the presses, so the official launch on September 12 at the Torbay Bookshop in Paignton will be a memorial to him as well as a rare opportunity to mark a new local social history.
Choir members attending the launch at 6pm for 6.30pm will be pleased to meet former singers in the choir and other music lovers who knew Malvern.
