ROY BOVEY recovered from a shaky start to win the Captain's Cup in blustery conditions at Torquay.

Bovey topped the 18-hole stableford with a great score of 43 points, followed two points behind by a man in good form, Dave Carter.

Tony Glazer was third with 40 points, while another man in great form, Harry Thorne, won the lowest gross prize with a one-over-par 35 points.

In Division One, Martin Garside's 40 points led the way from runner-up Gordon Milburn and Lenny Pym, both a point behind.

Alan Wye also had 40 points to top Division Two. Pete Almy was second with 39, on countback from Robin Lovering.

Division Three was won by Doug Harris with 40 points. Stephen Hanlon took second on countback from Chris Searson after both scored 39.

On Sunday, reigning Mixed Am-Am champions John Ireland, Sue Wood, Ian Doyle and Pam Goymour did it again.

A blistering last nine holes saw off the competition as the quartet scored 82 points.

In second place was another strong team of Karen Hough, Ken Hough, Colin Papworth and Fiona Parsons, who had led from the start of the day only to be pipped at the post.

Meanwhile, Torquay members Terry and Allan Bastow joined forces with Stover's Derek Tillbrook to win the South West Seniors Team Championship at Staddon Heights.

The trio won comfortably with 107 points, seven clear of their nearest challengers.

Pauline Goodrich, meanwhile, had a double success in the ladies' final county stableford, which was combined with the Cancer Relief Spoon.

Pauline won both the stableford's silver prize and the Cancer Relief Spoon when she scored 38 points to top the Silver Division by two points from Sue Slater and Sue Baxter.

Slater won the final stableford bronze medal, while the two bronze divisions were topped by Chris Piper (34pts) and Pat Harris (31pts).
