BUDDING chefs and brothers Cullan and Travis Smith were in for a treat when they were taught kitchen skills by top Shaldon chef Tim Bouget.

The eight-year-old twins were given a lesson in creating fine cuisine by kitchen master Tim, owner of up-market Shaldon restaurant ODE, who has cooked for the likes of Nelson Mandela and tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

The brothers won the chance to cook in his award-winning kitchen after scooping top prize in a competition run with Shaldon Primary School.

Tim explained: "The aim is for children to create a dish that represents and showcases the diversity and abundance of local and seasonal ingredients."

The winning dish by Cullan and Travis was 'smoked Teign mussels with Netherton samphire'.

Along with a taste of life as a chef, the boys received an engraved cup.

Tim added: "This competition is great for the children to get involved in foraging and cooking from an early age and is one of a number of initiatives ODE has taken to promote the great produce found in our region."
