Former Buckfast monk held images of child abuse
An 80-year-old former monk was yesterday facing prison after he admitted making and possessing indecent images of children.
Gregory Miller, also an ex-headteacher, had more than 5,000 images of child abuse on his computer.
He admitted six counts of making indecent images of children and an additional charge of possessing indecent images of children.
Plymouth Magistrates Court heard the images were uncovered by computer technicians at Buckfast Abbey, the Benedictine monastery in the South Hams.

They came across the images of the children, aged between seven and 13, on Miller's computer while implementing new policies.
He was arrested on May 1, 2012, with officers finding a further 5,000 images on his computer system.
The monk in charge of safeguarding at the abbey said: "We have been betrayed by a colleague and are deeply ashamed of his actions. But nonetheless we will provide neither excuses, nor a hiding place for anyone who breaks both the law of the land and that of the church in this regard."
The case was adjourned until April 10 for a probation report.
