A 50th minute strike from Gavin Hammon and Jamie Mudge's 80th minute winner was enough to see Buckland Athletic bring home the 3 points from Odd Down in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division on Saturday.

Bucks made it three three wins on the spin - and three matches without a booking – but the result was also the team's first away win of 2013.

As usual the opposition started the better side and their front four caused the Buckland defence problems with a combination of strength and pace. Consequently, their pressure pushed them into taking the lead in the 21st minute through Twaine Plummer. Fellow forward Kye Simpson provided a drilled cross in from the left presenting a point blank header for Plummer to notch past Kenny Griffiths giving him no chance.

Rather than in recent weeks, where this has knocked the stuffing out of Buckland it proved to be the catalyst for them to start to play. Gradually Antony Lynch's men took control of the game and should really have gone into the break ahead as Jamie Mudge and Chris Wright both narrowly missed the target with just the keeper to beat.

However, the Odd Down attack still carried a threat and could have scored again themselves if Simpson was wearing his shooting boots.

Buckland came out of a slightly 'volatile' half time dressing room with a steely determination to get something from the game, as while Odd Down were good in attack, the Devon men has seen enough of the defence to know they could create chances.

Buckland started where they left off and the first chance of the half fell to Hammon in the 50th minute, this time a clinical low drive beat the oncoming keeper to level the scores. Confidence then seemed to flow into the Buckland team who were now dominating the game by far.

Odd down were by no means out of it and Griffiths still had work to do but the home team threats were becoming fewer. At the other end, Buckland started to put the Odd Down goal under siege, Chris Wright unlucky to see a clever lob come back to him as it hit the bar and Gavin Hammon later seeing his shot come off the post.

In an effort to freshen things up Si Revell was introduced for the tireless Lucas Burgess in the 75th minute, five minutes later Revell's sublime pass found Jamie Mudge inside the Odd Down penalty area which resulted in Buckland taking the lead. Mudge did the pass proud with a great first touch and a low drive that the keeper couldn't keep out despite getting a hand to it as he dived to his left. This brought much to the delight to the travelling Buckland fans who massed behind his goal.
