DEVON'S Burts Potato Chips has become the best-selling premium crisp brand in Holland.

The hand-fried snacks are outselling brands including Kettle Chips at leading supermarkets and outlets across the Netherlands, according to latest sales figures.

The Roborough company began exporting to Holland a year ago and secured a deal with the country's second largest supermarket chain, C1000, where in just five weeks, they have become the store's best selling premium brand.

"It's fantastic that we are doing so well and a credit to all at Burts who have worked so hard to make it happen," said the company's co-owner, Nick Hurst. He added that the firm is shortly to sign a further deal in the Netherlands, with another major store.

Burts, which earlier this year began manufacturing branded potato snacks in an agreement with Portuguese-style restaurant chain Nandos, is to launch 40g snack-sized bags in the wake of their success with their 150g "sharing packs." It has also introduced a new, Paprika flavour to the range. The brand got an unexpected national plug this weekend, when Jonathan Ross spoke approvingly of Nandos crisps on his Radio Two show.
