Car with three women inside plunges into Cockwood Harbour
A major rescue operation was launched last night after a car ploughed into a harbour near Exeter and became stuck in rising waters.
At around 9.50pm last night, fire crews, police and the coastguard were involved in the dramatic rescue at Cockwood Harbour in Starcross, in which three women had to be freed from the vehicle.

The Ford Fiesta is understood to have left the road and become trapped in mud.
Rescuers raced against the rising tide to free the occupants.

And fire crews had to cut the roof of the vehicle to release the 20-year-old driver, who was placed on a spinal board and taken to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital with neck injuries.

Yeah, back brakes "locking up" for no reason, firing a car over a wall into a harbour happens all the time, can't move for small hatchbacks in most harbours.
Definitely "just one of those things", could happen to anybody!

With all due respect it sounds like there was some degree of speed involved for this to happen. All around the harbour the roads are pretty tight and need to be negotiated with great care. As for the back brakes locking up, I find this a bit hard to believe, brakes tend not to just 'lock up', and again if she was driving at a reasonablle speed for the area she probably could have re-gained control before "The vehicle hit a wall, flipped over, and landed on its wheels in the harbour".
Sounds to me like she was driving too fast for her ability and the conditions and has made up a story to cover herself - I should know I did it as a younger driver!”
