A MIXED fortune faces South Devon branches of Clinton Cards.

Torquay, Newton Abbot and Paignton stores have been acquired by Lakeshore Lending Ltd, a subsidiary of American Greetings.

It was part of a 397-stores deal contributing around £212million in annual revenues, and will preserve 4,500 jobs across the country.

However, Teignmouth and Totnes remain on a list under the control of administrators Zolfo Cooper. Some shops on this list were closed on Friday.

Totnes and Teignmouth branches are open and continuing to trade as normal.

However, their future remains uncertain with a spokesman saying there may be more branch closures in the future if a buyer cannot be found. Zolfo Cooper is now looking for expressions of interest for stores such as Teignmouth and Totnes not taken over in the Lakeshore Lending deal.
