A TORBAY care home has been investigated after allegations clients were mistreated.

But Torbay Care Trust has refused to reveal details of the investigation into the two-star rated Primley View Nursing Home, at Primley Park, Paignton.

The trust has also declined to reveal any information about the outcome of the investigation, or whether the complaint has been upheld.

The investigation was launched after an agency health care assistant, who had worked a number of shifts at Primley View, wrote to the home and the safeguarding team at Torbay Council raising concerns.

The letters of complaint have been seen by the Herald Express.

The allegations include claims that staff ignored patients needs for a 'considerable amount of time' while they carried on watching television.

A Torbay Care Trust spokesman said: "Recent concerns relating to this home have been thoroughly investigated, in line with agreed safeguarding procedures and in partnership with the relevant agencies.

"As is appropriate in such situations, we will be in direct contact with the complainant to discuss the outcome of this work.

"Our first priority is the health and well-being of the residents and we will continue to work closely with the home to ensure they are supported to make all appropriate developments to deliver care to the standards which the care trust demands."

Paul Bliss, the private owner of Primley View Nursing Home, added: "The proprietors and staff of Primley View Nursing Home take all matters regarding safeguarding and welfare of our residents extremely seriously.

"Our first priority is always the health and well-being of our residents.

"In line with our safeguarding procedures and in full co-operation with all agencies involved, we have thoroughly investigated this matter.

"We are entirely satisfied that in partnership with the Torbay Care Trust, we have taken all necessary steps to maintain our two-star good service quality rating awarded by Care Quality Commission at their last inspection."

“This situation is gettin beyond a joke. The complaint was simply malicious rumours THAT WERE PROVEN TO BE UNTRUE from an agency worker who wasn't wanted back due to his lazy work ethics, constant cigarette and coffee breaks to avoid any real work, and if you ask me very childish. He has done this before to another home in the bay area and god only knows when he will strike again !!!!”

“Well done to that agency worker, unfortunately i agree that it is always a situation of a little too late, I love this sort of work but have given it up due to the poor standards in most of the homes I have worked in, with very little time allocated for caring and too many other chores to complete, the residence always seem to be way down on the list priorities, some of the most professional places I have worked in as an agency health care worker were council run and nhs run homes.”

“Maureen I agree hun but it would also be better if they got people who worked for the investigation team to actually go and work in different homes for a week or 2 undercover to see what really goes on I was fortunate I worked at a home some years ago and we were actively encouraged to voice any concerns we had with owner and manager.
I then after a gap in care work worked for a home on nights in Brixham in 2008 where residents were made to get up at stupid hours and shoved to bed early I did phone Care Standards about it AND PROMPTLY LEFT after a month of nothing being done. Too little too late about time these homes were sorted out as many residents unable to to speak for themselves”
