Carp fishing is at its best during unsettled weather

THE Specimen Lake at Town Parks Fishery provided excellent sport this week with many anglers banking fish.

Some bigger fish were reported to have thrown the hook before coming to the net!

On peg 10, Mark Warren took two good carp which fell for his cell boilie, offered above a white pop-up mid-water. Warren's best fish was a good common of 19lbs 3oz.

Matty Feakes chose peg 16 and fished banana crunch boilies towards the central bar. Feakes banked a nice common, followed by a mirror of 16lbs 8oz.

Conor Nettleton fished peg 10 and banked two good commons which fell to a cell boilie offered mid water. Nettleton's best was 18lbs 2oz. He also lost a couple of fish.

Trevor Trebell also had a good session, his first for a while, banking two carp from peg two.

Nick Soloman fished from peg 12 in atrocious weather, a strong westerly blowing straight into the peg with heavy rain, but managed to bank two carp from the margin.

With more unsettled weather forecast the carp should continue to feed and hopefully some of the larger fish known to be in the lake will come to the bank.

Charlie Leggett pole fished from peg five with a size 20 hook and single maggot. Leggett took a good bag of Roach, culminating with a fine fish of just under 2lbs.

The top Match Lake also saw anglers taking good mixed bags. carp were on and off the feed during most days although some anglers reported bags of six or more during a day session.

Once again Rod Metcalf banked good-sized carp during several sessions throughout the week. Most Carp fell to single sweetcorn offered from the dam wall.

NEWBARN Angling centre, near Paignton, has enjoyed a busy week on the lakes with many anglers enjoying good sport.

On Mirror Lake, Conor Nettleton fished for 24 hours and had three carp and two mirrors – one at 9lb and the other at 21lb. Conor also had a 16lb common.

Kevin Lock also fished on the same evening and had two carp out, the biggest was 15lb.

Euro Angling, of Torquay, enjoyed a day match which was well attended. Although no catch report was handed in fish were caught with the biggest being reported at 20lb-plus.

Phil Lamble fished a day session and had two fish out, both caught on pop-ups, the biggest being a 16lb 4oz common which was reported to be in pristine condition.

Scott Bryant had a 13lb common on a zig, while Peter Skrivanos fished a night session and had two fish out, a 15lb common and a 12lb common, both caught on pop-ups.

Other fish have been reported but no catch reports handed in, so could all anglers please fill in those catch reports!

Up on Willow many anglers reported good quality roach coming on to the bank.

Here's wishing you all tight lines in the year ahead.

THE Wyvern Open Shore fishing competition will be fished at Slapton and Beesands on January 13.

Sign on from 11am at Streete Gate car park at the Eastern end of Slapton and the fishing will be from 1pm- 6pm.

Entry is £8 plus pool (Juniors £6). First prize will be £150 cash plus many other good prizes.

Fishing will be with one rod and no more than three hooks. All fish to be recorded by a steward on capture.
