Celebrating uniforms

SEEING the pupils of Torquay Community College proudly sporting brand new uniforms and KEVICCs at Totnes returning to theirs after 10 years of casual dress, is a reminder that young people quite like uniformity.

Certainly youth groups such as scouts, guides, cadets and the boys' and girls' brigades have never found uniforms a barrier to attracting members.

Here are three pictures, sent in by readers, which celebrate days of smartly pressed trousers and skirts and polished shoes.

The coming of the Olympic torch prompted Derek Denbow of Cadewell Crescent, Torquay, to submit this picture of him and others welcoming its 1948 predecessor at Kingskerswell.
