Celebrating uniforms
SEEING the pupils of Torquay Community College proudly sporting brand new uniforms and KEVICCs at Totnes returning to theirs after 10 years of casual dress, is a reminder that young people quite like uniformity.
Certainly youth groups such as scouts, guides, cadets and the boys' and girls' brigades have never found uniforms a barrier to attracting members.

SCOUTS: The 15th Belgrave scouts on parade on Paignton Green, thought to be in the late 1960s. Pictured are Martin Brown, his brother Michael Brown, Kevin Butterworth and John Widdecombe
Here are three pictures, sent in by readers, which celebrate days of smartly pressed trousers and skirts and polished shoes.
The coming of the Olympic torch prompted Derek Denbow of Cadewell Crescent, Torquay, to submit this picture of him and others welcoming its 1948 predecessor at Kingskerswell.

Thanks also to Martin Brown with a picture of scouts on Paignton Green.
Along with him are his brother Michael Brown, Kevin Butterworth and John Widdecombe.
The final picture recalls St George's Day parades long past. In recent years the massing of Torbay's groups has taken place at Plainmoor football ground where at least there is some shelter from the rain.
