Celebration at seaside
A WELL-KNOWN former publican has marked his 90th birthday.
Roy Thompson and his wife Joan marked the occasion with a seaside celebration in Salcombe.

The couple (pictured), of Brook Haven Close, Kingskerswell, have lived in the village for 24 years.
Cornish-born Roy and Joan are best known for their two decades in the pub trade, working for Plymouth Breweries.

They were the landlords of the Kents Cavern pub, Torquay — welcoming the late legendary comedian Tommy Cooper in 1975 — and then had their name above the door at the Haywain, Chelston.
After leaving the pub trade, Roy worked for Kingsteignton-based WBB Minerals, now Sibelco UK.
Joan said: "We retired from pubs when Roy was 60 but he kept working until he was 78. I don't think he has done too badly getting to this age.
"We had a lovely family get-together at the Cottage Hotel in Salcombe to celebrate his birthday."
