EXPERIENCED jazz saxophonist, teacher and bandleader Neil Maya (pictured) is putting together a Big Band Day on Saturday, March 2.

If you love the sound of Duke Ellington, Count Basie or Glen Miller and play an instrument then this is the place to hear and play songs such as Fever, Pennsylvania 6-5000 and Jumping at the Woodside. The one-off event from 10am to 5.30pm is located at Hannah's at Seale-Hayne. Neil said: "If the enthusiasm is there to start a more regular band, then I'm keen to develop this."

Players need to be grade five or above in music reading ability with improvising being optional. Top of the recruiting list are trumpets, trombones and a baritone sax.
