COCKINGTON made it six wins in eight games at the top of the C Division with a five-wicket win over Bridestowe.

Scott Tremaine top scored for Bridestowe with 62 in a total of 188 for six. Richard Drake made 29 in a stand of 79 for the second wicket and Phil Hatton chipped in with 34.

Cockington's Darren Scott made runs hard to come by as he bowled 13 overs at a cost of just 12 runs. Shaun Needham (3-59) was effective in a different way.

Needham gave Cockington a start with 46, but it was by no means plain sailing for the leaders.

Barry Down (3-56) picked up wickets and at 112 for five the game was finely poised.

Sixth pair Andy Hele (45no) and Chris Needham (30no) kept Cockington on course and they won with an over to spare.

● SKIPPER Colin Mortimore showed a welcome return to form with a valuable 42 in Chagford's four-wicket win over Dartington & Totnes.

The former Bovey Tracey and Tavistock left-hander has found runs at a premium recently, but a captain's innings was called for when Mortimore went in at nine for two and he duly obliged.

Mark Gribble had taken six for 34 – and Jeremy Christophers three for 15 – as Chagford bowled D&T out for 136.

Opener Bertus Loots made a brisk 42 with eight fours and a six, but Harold Stevenson (18no) was the only other batsman to get past 10.

Ryan Stevenson (2-34) had Chagford hopping around early on, but the nerves were soothed by Mortimore and Neil Rowlands (29) putting on 83.

Matt Hickey (2-38) kept D&T interested for a while, but John Coburn could not be shifted and his 19 not out saw Chagford to victory with 19 of their 50 overs to go.

● BUCKFASTLEIGH-based Plymouth Civil Service climbed up to fourth in the table – a point behind Chagford – after taking the best of a draw from their game against Seaton.

Seaton will almost certainly look on the game as 'one that got away' as they were partly the architects of their own misfortune.

Civil totalled 210 for nine in their 46 overs – boosted by 11 from the final two balls, runs which proved crucial.

Ben Morgan bowled five wides on what should have been the last ball, then Venu Kondamudi hit the 'real' last ball for six.

Seaton will have had plenty of time on the way home to consider the implications of those 11 runs as they were 205 for nine when their overs ran out – six runs short of victory.

Civil had a patchy start at 13 for three and were glad of Dave Bayliss (67) and Jan Walaszkowski (54) for getting them moving.

Andy Hawker (20) and Kondamudi (22no) weighed in to good effect. Ben Copp (4-54) was the most effective of the Seaton bowlers.

Seaton set off in hot pursuit with everyone chipping in, starting with opener Matt Hewer (30) and Steve Pritchard (28) putting on 62.

Richard Warner (24), Greg Foxwell (45) and Mark Bray (30) all got the target down, despite Bayliss (3-31) trying to slow them.

It was all or nothing in the last over as Seaton lost three wickets – two to run outs trying to scramble a win.

● STOKE Gabriel moved away from the wrong end of the table with a four-wicket win over Tiverton & Bickleigh.

Stoke got off to a good start thanks to a quickfire double from Matt Smyth (2-48).

Tiverton's Tim Reed (21) and Ben Stone (27) added 69 for the third wicket as Stoke struggled to keep their extras in check – 57 in total.

Two wickets either side of drinks brought Stoke back into the game, but with Richard Pugsley (48 not out) batting through the second half of the innings pushed Tiverton to a score of 220 for eight.

Dave Bolland (2-43) and Matt Taylor (2-33) took the other wickets for Stoke.

After losing Steve Tolley early for nought, Stoke skipper Neil Robinson (44) and Mark Newman (40) added 93 for the second wicket.

John Hall (2-69) removed both Newman and Matt Taylor (34), but Rob Baker (33no) and Dave Bolland (21no) saw Stoke to a four-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare.
