TORBAY and Babbacombe ASA's Cliff Prout and Nigel Foord joined forces with Sidmouth and Honiton members on Dave James boat Edwin John at Minehead, targeting smoothhounds.

Conditions were a little blowy and wet later on but some great sport produced a few smoothounds and small-eyed ray to double figures. Foord was fortunate to also bag a couple of very nice cod in tip-top condition, one of 12lb, early on and then a nine pounder on the last cast! Other boats also found quality cod of similar size which was a little surprising for this time of year.

  1. TASTY: Brixham's Chris Martin (above) fished a wreck 25 miles out from his own boat Charlotte Lee to take this good cod weighing in at 20.13.0, while (below) Nigel Foord of Torbay and Babbacombe ASA is pictured on his Minehead trip

DARTMOUTH'S Glenn Law was among those on Owen Malia's Outlaw last Sunday in search of early season bass on some of the usual marks around the coastline. Good fish were caught with artificial lures and live mackerel baits, when the fish went 'on the feed'. In the space of two hours ten fish over 6lbs were hooked, the largest bass exactly 10lbs for Glenn.

MARK LOEWY (6-06-12/ 71.354%) won a smoothound battle when three members of Torbay and Babbacombe ASA went to Branscombe. With the lead constantly changing hands during a long night, Dave Stacey (5-14-12/ 65.799%) finished second, and Nick Best (4-05-08/ 48.264%) third.

BRIXHAM members have been fishing Berry Head for garfish. Best fish went to Tim Clyburn with a good one of 1.14.6. Darryl Farley found them to 1.7.10 and brother, Russell, to 1.6.0. His son, Ciaran Farley, had them to 1.4.8. Shay Upham found a nice shore pollack of 2.2.10, again from Berry head. This Sunday the club has a competition and barbecue at the breakwater from 10am till 4pm.
