College to open its doors to the community
SOUTH DEVON COLLEGE are hosting a free community open day for all the family this Saturday after the event proved a big hit last year.
Due to the successful 2012 community day - which coincided with the college's 80th birthday celebrations - South Devon College is opening its doors again this Saturday 9 March from 10am – 3pm at their Vantage Point campus in Paignton.

The free family friendly event features many activities including: a sport, fitness and play zone with bouncy castle and sporting challenges; live music and theatre performances around the campus; meeting exotic animals and free hair & beauty treatments in the 'Image Zone'. Highlights include live science experiments taking place in the 'Science and Engineering Zone' and the grand prix wheel change challenge and motor show in the 'Automotive and Motorcycle Zone'.
Celebrity chef and award-winning restaurateur Mitch Tonks – who has launched a seafood academy at South Devon College – will be dropping in to perform live cooking demonstrations at 11am, and the 'Hospitality, Catering and Tourism Zone' is hosting a special afternoon 'Ritz' tea and exhibiting art displays in their Gallery.

There will also be opportunities to tour the college campus, see the facilities, attend motivational talks and to hear about the College's new South West Energy Centre, which opens in September. A special presentation will be made at 1pm to mark the college's recent double triumph at Westminster's Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Awards for 'Sport in the Curriculum' and the 'Effective Use of Technology'.

Refreshment outlets are available throughout the day - with buy one get one free on all hot drinks - and other community organisations will be attending to showcase their services.
