SOUTH DEVON COLLEGE have impressed after a visit from chief members of key governmental funding partner the Skills Funding Agency (SFA).

Kim Thorneywork, SFA Chief Executive, and Paul Lucken, Director of the Agency's Relationship Team for South West, visited South Devon College this week to undertake a tour of their Vantage Point campus in Paignton. The agency funds national Further Education (FE) and skills training and last year paid grants of over £2billion to FE providers. They have contributed to many South Devon College projects, including their £8million University Centre and their multi-million-pound new Energy Centre – a renewable energy training facility currently under construction - due to be completed later this year.

College Principal Stephen Criddle and Pat Denham OBE, Vice Principal and Deputy CEO, welcomed both Kim and Paul with a presentation and meeting with the Senior Management Team. They took them on a tour of their Vantage Point campus – including the University Centre, automotive & construction centres, and hospitality & catering departments - to meet current students, apprentices, employers and staff.

Former Ofsted inspector Kim Thorneywork said: "Coming to South Devon College has given me tremendous insight into how the College is working to meet the needs of learners in the South West, and the opportunity to meet some of those learners first hand has been really rewarding. There is an excellent range of opportunities for learners to progress further in their learning, including onto higher education. The College has really invested in its campus and I am sure the excellent facilities will add to any learners' experience at South Devon College."
