Cracking down on drunken violence in Teignmouth
A HIGH-PROFILE police operation is being rolled out into Teignmouth because of rising levels of drunken violence.
Operation Ambassador was first launched in Torquay last summer to clean up the harbourside, with undercover officers visiting pubs and clubs during opening hours.

It has been such a success in transforming Torquay's nighttime economy that police have now rolled it out across the rest of South Devon.
Police warned that pubs and clubs might lose their licences if they failed to keep high standards.

Plain-clothed officers visit premises where police have concerns about disorder, anti-social behaviour, drugs, underage drinkers or drunks being served alcohol.
The operation is lead by acting Detective Inspector Chris Yarwood, who has warned Teignmouth premises are under the spotlight.
He warned: "We have identified problems in Teignmouth relating to rising violence with injury, which we are particularly attributing to the way that the night time economy is managed.
"We will be deploying the Operation Ambassador teams in that area. All licensed premises will be visited.
"We will be deploying officers in that area because there are some areas of concern which we will have to be addressing.
"What we are concerned with is public safety and protecting children.
"If we find the licensees and businesses are not behaving responsibly with regard to their licensing objectives, we will take action against them.
"In cases where we have concerns we will invite the managers and designated premises supervisors to discuss the issues and, if necessary, we have to review the conditions of their licence.
"We always offer the chance to improve and address the problems before we take any formal action because we do not want to damage what is already a struggling night-time economy. But public safety has to take precedence over profit."
