STUDENTS of Highweek Primary school in Newton Abbot got creative this week with visiting local artists.

The week was subsidised by the Helen Foundation and featured events aimed at getting children creative.

There was a felt workshop with local artist Carol Timms, during which the children made juggling balls.

They were visited by Simon Ripley, who introduced the children to printing, and Lauren Ballard, who helped them in creating natural sculptures such as a giant ladybird.

The children were able to indulge their artistic sides with new and exciting equipment bought along to them by the artists.

Art co-ordinator Sarah Venard put on the event with help from the Devon Arts In Schools Initiative.

She said: "They were extremely helpful. It was them who put me in contact with the Helen Foundation which was great and has agreed to part-fund the project.

"The children all had a wonderful time and seemed really excited by the new facilities on offer to them. It was a great success."
