CRICKET teams have been loving life in Torquay.

The six-a-side event at Barton Cricket Club was organised by Sanctuary Housing as part of the Herald Express loveLIFE campaign to get people leading fitter, happier and healthier lives.

Teams included people who had not played the sport before as well as regulars and retired old hands.

The final saw the host team play against the Herald Express — with the paper's team eventually winning overall.

Herald Express team captain Dominic Bryant said: "Everyone had a great day and we were very happy to emerge as the tournament winners.

"Many of the teams who entered included players who were not familiar with the delights of cricket, and the day rekindled the sporting flame for many others who hadn't played for a very long time, myself included, which is what the loveLIFE campaign is all about.

"The more we can engage with the public, encourage and promote participation in sport and healthier lifestyles the better for everyone concerned.

"Our thanks goes to the Sanctuary Housing Group for helping to organise the event so effectively, to Barton Cricket Club and its volunteers, to the umpires who gave their time for nothing, and to all the teams that entered and participated in what was a very enjoyable day for all."
