Darren was born and bred in London, learned to cook at his mother's feet and has been working in professional kitchens since he was 15.

He has worked in some of Britain's best restaurants, even cooking Tony Blair's vegetables on the day he became Prime Minister.

Darren's last position was head chef at the Royal Dart Hotel in Kingswear, before joining the Apprentice in April.

Dartmouth Apprentice manager Nina Stanesby said she was delighted to welcome Darren to the team.

"Darren has quickly become a much-loved part of the team here, and we are delighted he has accepted the chance to not only be a head chef, but also a trainer and leader of new catering professionals," she said.

"To be a head chef is a big challenge, but it takes someone very special to work here, produce top quality menus and cater for large events, whilst also taking responsibility for the training and support of our apprentices.

"When he stepped up to become acting head chef at such short notice, it quickly became clear he had what it took to lead our kitchen".

Darren said: "I'm honoured to be a part of the team here at Dartmouth Apprentice, and am looking forward to working not only as a head chef in a prestigious restaurant and also to helping people at the beginning of their careers in catering. I'm excited to be here."
