Dartmoor rescuer Ian reaches Everest summit
DARTMOOR rescue volunteer Ian Ridley reached the summit of Mount Everest early today.
Ian, who is a member of the Ashburton section of the Dartmoor Rescue Group, reached the highest point in the world at 6.40am local time.

Colleagues on the Mountain Skills website wrote: "Have just spoken to Ian, he is safely back at the South Col, having successfully summited Everest in the early hours, stepping foot on top of the world at 06.40am local time.
"He seems very well and in high spirits (by that I mean cracking poor jokes!), looking forward to some well earned rest. An absolutely incredible achievement and we could not be more proud of him! Congratulations."

Ian, from Exeter, had been delayed by several days in his expedition's push towards the summit, but today he became the second South Devon climber to summit Everest in less than a week.
Paignton's Mollie Hughes made it to the summit as part of an expedition last weekend.
Yesterday Mountain Skills reported: "The summit push on Everest has begun for the Jagged Globe team.
"Have heard from Ian, he's feeling good, the wind speeds are much higher than predicted but he had an excellent climb up to the South Col and has been trying to get some rest this afternoon.
"We wish them all the best of luck."
