Dartmouth Academy responds to SOS Call from RNLI with £512 haul
Dartmouth Academy students have raised £512 for the RNLI SOS appeal with a day of special events.
The Academy supports SOS day - organized by the charity that saves lives at sea - every year, and members of the Dart Inshore Lifeboat were on hand to inspire the children’s efforts at special assemblies and events throughout the SOS week.

A non-uniform day on Friday January 25 – with the theme Sea or Sand – was popular and saw some colourful and inspiring outfits from both young and old Academy students. Cake sales and other events kept the funds rolling in.
Older students saw a presentation from Dart RNLI Communications and Education officer John Fenton with crew member Kevin John on hand in full kit. The presentation showed videos and other details of some of the many 'shouts' the lifeboat has been involved with in the last twelve months.

Younger children attended a series of special assemblies throughout the week again detailing how the RNLI works and some of the exciting rescues crews have attended.
Dartmouth Academy Principal Nick Hindmarsh said: “The RNLI is a vital charity that saves lives every day. Our students are enthusiastic in their support of SOS day and have raised a great sum of money, which we know will be put to a good cause.
“We’d like to thank John and his team for running such interesting and inspiring assemblies which will ensure that the children here at Dartmouth Academy are mindful of their safety when around the coast and build their respect for the heroes who risk their lives to save others.”
