Dartmouth children joining Academy enjoy colourful start in nursery at age three
Dartmouth Academy’s new class of nursery children – three year olds beginning their school career – have been learning about colours during their first few weeks.
The ten three-year-olds joined the class of teacher Emma Heard in September and she said that the group have been settling in very well.

“Being part of the wider Academy family means that all our nursery children settle in well,” she said. “I’ve been really impressed by how well they have all done, making friends and progressing already. They have been learning about colours in fun and interesting ways.”
The children have been using the weather as a way of looking at colours – thinking about rainbows and the ‘marbling’ that they can see in puddles outside. The group are all taking advantage of Government funding for 15 hours of free tuition a week.

“The Academy is a very friendly place and as an all-through school the younger children can see that ‘family’ atmosphere in a safe place – I think it helps their confidence and social skills to be part of the school early,’ said Ms Heard.
