Dartmouth meeting on benefit changes
A public information evening is being held at Townstal Community Hall, Dartmouth, on Friday November 30 to inform residents about changes to benefits that may affect them.
On April 1 2013 Council Tax Benefit is being abolished and will be replaced by a local scheme. Everyone of working age and in receipt of Council Tax Benefit is likely to be affected by the changes and will be required to pay something towards their Council Tax.
October 2013 also sees the beginning of the roll out of Universal Credit which combines a number of in and out of work benefits into one payment.
The meeting will cover the background to the Welfare Reform Act and provide updates and information on Universal Credit as well as changes to Social Fund Payments, Council Tax Support, Disability Living Allowances and the Employment and Support Allowance alongside other changes to the welfare system.

Cllr Hilary Bastone said: “The benefits system is changing and we want to make sure that everyone that needs to know understands what these changes mean for their circumstances. This public meeting is a chance for anyone who feels unsure about welfare reform to come forward and learn about the new system of benefits.”
There will be a Q&A session afterwards. The meeting begins at 7pm.
