Dartmouth will sparkle for Academy's Christmas Fayre
Dartmouth Academy is to hold its annual Christmas Fayre in the town’s Old Market during the Candlelit Dartmouth weekend.
The event on Saturday December 1 will feature performances, competitions and fabulous stalls run by charities and companies as well as students and staff from the all-through Academy itself.
It will open at 10am with a series of Christmas-themed performances from Academy pupils, students and staff and will run until 5pm – just before the special Lantern procession, which is the fantastic culmination of the weekend.
By holding such an important part of the Academy calendar during theCandlelit Dartmouth weekend - which runs on November 30 and December 1 – it is hoped that even more people will flood into the lower town. The Academy has already helped the event this year with special lantern-making workshops for the community run by the Academy head of Art Nicola Perrott and is helping to run the event’s special Park and Ride service too!

Candlelit Dartmouth has become the traditional start of the South Hams shopping season and thisyear's festive market is set to be the largest yet. As well as the Old Market, stalls will fill Royal Avenue Gardens, The Quay and Flavel Place.
Any profits from the Academy event will go towards a local charity that the Academy pupils and students will vote for in December.
Academy Communications manager Suzi Wooldridge, who is organising the event, said: “We are really looking forward to holding this event in the Old Market for the first time. We have a number of performances from Academy children and stalls selling items they have designed, so this is a great showcase of ourtalented young people.
“Candlelit Dartmouth is a wonderful event which is now an established part of the Dartmouth events calendar – we are proud to be associated with it and are pleased this event will also be raising funds for a cause which ourchildren will pick.”
Candlelit Dartmouth Chairman Steve Thomas said: “We are delighted that the Old Market will be the home for Dartmouth Academy’s Christmas Fayre. The community is coming together for this wonderful event and to have our localschool here only brings in more people to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas in Dartmouth on November 30 and December 1.”
