Dawlish Leisure Centre to host indoor market
A market inside Dawlish Leisure Centre is not what you would normally expect to see when you go for your weekly swim – but Teignbridge Council is doing just that.
The Council is putting on a new indoor market inside its leisure centre as it looks to boost the offer for residents using the popular leisure centre.
The market is being held on Sunday February 24 from 10am until 4pm and will feature an array of products as well as games and entertainment. It comes hot on the heels of the successful Winter Warmer Market which attracted 400 people through its doors when it was held in November 2012.
The team at Dawlish Leisure Centre came up with the idea of the indoor market as a way of attracting new customers, generating income, showcases local businesses and highlights the leisure centre’s sport, fitness and swim facilities.

The market will feature a range of arts and crafts, beauty products and food and drink produced by local firms. Entry is free and swimming will also be half price. There will also be a children’s play zone, mega inflatables and a bouncy castle.
Teignbridge District Council’s Executive Spokesperson for Communities, Recreation and Leisure, Cllr George Gribble, said:
“We try to make sure we offer the best recreational and leisure facilities across our centres and this was a great idea from the Dawlish team which we have been happy to put into action.
“It’s a family-friendly idea which makes good use of the space inside, boosts the profile of the leisure centre, attracts regular and new visitors and allows local businesses to showcase their own products. It’s a real community event – something Teignbridge has a long history of providing.”
Sellers are being encouraged to get involved and can book a stall from £10. Seventeen spaces have already been booked but places are still available – however they are expected to fill fast.
Future markets are also planned for June 30 and November 24.
