The bodies of six domestic rabbits were discovered dumped in four supermarket carrier bags in a litter bin in Devon.

A council worker made the grisly find on Tuesday morning in St Michael's Park, in Paignton.

The RSPCA South Devon branch believe the animals – three tan-coloured with dark markings, one dark grey and the other two black – died at the weekend.

RSPCA chief inspector Neil Thomas said they may have suffered blows to the head.

“RoseE - which of your 3 identical entries were red-arrowed? I think people would have got your message first time around - unless you just like to see your 'name' in print?

BillyBones53 - why would a child be rummaging in a litter bin?”

“This is an alarming act of senseless cruelty. What if a child had found this bag?

As Rose E above has mentioned, there is a Government petition available to sign which, if passed, will allow for an improvement in the legislation of animal cruelty. The perpetrators of such heinous act of cruelty like this could then be punished by the law accordingly.

Please speak up for the voiceless and sign the petition : http://tinyurl.com/d2mrmg8

    Thank you.”

“Maybe the person who red-arrowed is the guilty party....we'll see”

“Disgusting and unnecessary. I hope the culprit is found. Sadly, people aren't punished properly for cruelty to animals. We need proper sanctions such as proposed by Alfie's Law. Animal lovers can find out about it on http://tinyurl.com/cmf692r
