A DELICATESSEN in Salcombe has been taken over after a leasehold sale worth £115,000.

Casse Croute, which means 'snack' or 'light meal' in French, from the literal translation of 'break the crust', was sold by the Exeter office of Christie and Co to first-time buyer Caitlin Ross from Dorset.

Caitlin is taking over after the retirement of Paddy and Griselda Daly, who have run the firm for the last five years.

The business, based in the heart of Salcombe, sells patisserie items, fine cheeses, charcuterie, olives, fresh breads, sandwiches and paninis.

Caitlin plans on running the business along the same lines as the previous owners.

Paul Heather, who handled the sale, said there were good profit margins in the deli trade.

He said: "Delicatessen businesses are growing in popularity and are currently highly sought-after as they offer all the rewards of running a catering business, but come with shorter opening hours and good profit margins, in comparison with many other catering operations."
