IN THE Devon section finals of the 2-Wood triples at Culm Vale, 2008 losing semi-finalists Melinda Whalley, Barbara Bellamy and Audrey Cross were beaten in their opening match by Section 2 qualifier Pam Parkhouse (Barnstaple AR).

With Bellamy and Cross switching places this year, the Newton Abbot triple found themselves departing earlier than they had planned after falling eight shots adrift at the close.

Two of the closest matches in Group A saw defeats for both Paignton and Totnes.

The Paignton rink of Sheila Dring, Marian Stephens and Linda Trewin was beaten by Sue Evans (Honiton) 20-19 while Lynda Joseph, Pam Tulley and Anita Huxtable (Totnes) lost out to Barnstaple United services skip Chris Tossell 17-16.

The group winners were the Honiton rink of Carole Fisher, Joan Heard and Sue Evans who beat Barnatsple Ashleigh Road 17-10 in the final while the decider in Group B was fought out between Abbrook Park and Tavistock.

Irene Fortt, Joyce Clark and Margaret Jones (Abbrook Park) flew the flag for Section 5 and victories over Tina Payne (Great Torrington) 19-15 and Barbara Goss (South Molton) 20-13 saw them just miss out on a place at All-Finals Day when they lost to Sue Silcox (Tavistock) 16-14.

Qualifiers Terri Day (Victoria) and Sheila Joy (Dartmouth) both lost their opening matches with Dartmouth falling to the Exonia rink of mother and daughter Jill and Vicky Stone and skip Sheila Smith.
