The homes at Beechfield, Barton, will be the first in the area to be built using highly sustainable eco-friendly building techniques, which will include solar-powered water heating systems, photovoltaic roof panels, enhanced insulation and rainwater harvesting.
The first residents expected to move in later this year.
The 144 new homes, being built by Sovereign Living on 4.6 acres of previously undeveloped land. The first show apartment opens on site on September 8.

Torbay Council donated the land below Barton Primary School and a grant of £700,000.
The homes will be available for a mixture of private owners, key workers, elderly people, the disabled, first-time buyers and part-owners.
