Devon too fast for Cornwall in estate 10-miler
FIT2RUN member Justine Sutton, completed the Devon against Cornwall 10-miler – an off-road race around the Mount Edgcumbe estate and out to Kingsand and Cawsand – in 1hr 40mins.
All runners' times counted and were averaged out to see which county was the fastest. Devon won!
It was the second part of a match as there was a 10k event in October which Devon also won.
TORBAY AC's Jon Parkinson finished fifth in 1.01.02 at Alby's Memorial Race, the Braunton 10-miler.
Starting and finishing on the athletics track the event takes a course along quiet, undulating country lanes with two steep climbs to put fitness to the test.
The race was won by Shaun Antel of North Devon Road Runners in 54.21.
First lady home was ex-Torbay AC athlete Helen Dyke, 16th in 1.03.47.
THREE South Devon AC runners were in the first 50 runners home.
Rob Leeke was 25th in 1.06.15, Jeremy Hocking 31st in 1.07.23 and Simon Johnson 49th in 1.10.01.
Three others competed in the 10-mile Hestercombe Humdinger in Taunton. Stacey Toppin was 98th in 1.16.11, Roger Webb 147th in 1.21.52 and John Drennan 157th in 1.22.52.
TWO Teignbridge Trotters – Sue Fewings in 1.23.13 and Steve Wallace (1.32.17) ran the Braunton course.
Mark Wotton was a lonely trotter at the Lliswerry 8 near Newport.
The course was flat and fast with Wotton clocking 57.33 for 182nd.
The Hestercombe Humdinger was a challenging figure-of-eight road race with stunning scenery around the Quantock Hills.
It starts and finishes at the historic Hestercombe Gardens and covers 9½ miles.
Ryan Anthony dusted off his racing shoes after a long rest and ran the course in 1.27.02 for 181st out of 262.
ENTRIES are rolling in fast for the 2012 Follett Stock Great West Run on May 6.
If 13.1 miles seems a bit far, then alongside the half-marathon is the Recruitment Solutions Great West 5k which takes in a flat, city centre route.
And the Family Fun Run follows a route of just over a mile, leaving Exeter Arena just after the start of the half-marathon. Details and entry forms for all the Great West Run events can be found at www.thegreatwestrun.co.uk
