FRESH LEARNING IDEAS IN THE SPOTLIGHT AT DIPTFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL
Tony Callcut, Headteacher of Diptford C of E Primary School is pleased to announce an 'Open Day' on Thursday 26th October from 15.30 to 17.30. The open day is designed to invite prospective new parents to come along to understand the unique learning environment that Diptford has to offer their children, who are due to enter the education system. It will also enable existing parents and relatives to have a look around the school and view the childrens' work.
The open day provides a fantastic opportunity to view the newly acquired 'Yurt'. This unique and exciting addition to the school provides the teachers and children with a stimulating learning space, firing the childrens' imagination. The Yurt is believed to be the only one of it's kind in a primary school in the South Hams.
Over the past few years, the Diptford Primary School community and parents have worked tirelessly to raise the essential funds to enable a safe outdoor learning environment for all the children at the school. The first phase of the project was to purchase the adjoining field to be used as an outdoor learning and exercise space, this was realised a year ago. Since then, additional funding for the Yurt was secured via an 'Awards for All' grant. This was headed up by Peter Moore, who teaches the Key Stage 1 children and is the school's fully qualified 'Forest Schools' teacher.

By taking the children out of the standard classroom setting we can inspire them to be more creative and learn in different ways. Our comprehensive Forest Schools program involves woodland learning and now our Yurt offers all the classes a very different and fun learning area."
Diptford C of E School offers places from pre-school through to Year 6. The current pre-school runs one day a week but will run on additional days when numbers allow. Introducing children to a pre-school sited with the Infant and Primary schools makes for a very easy transition to school.
The open day will offer a display of childrens' work, a forest schools demonstration and the Yurt will be open for viewing with it's Woodburner lit. Refreshments will be available for all.
