'Dogged' Paignton hold out
PAIGNTON return to Queens Park this Saturday to face Sidmouth boosted by a 24-14 win at Bridgwater.
It was only Paignton's second win of the season so far and stopped them dropping into the bottom three.
Mark Beavis, the Saxon's director of rugby, said the 13 men left on the field needed to dig deep in the dying stages to come away victorious.
"I would like to think it is a corner turned after the difficult start to the season we have had – and if nothing else it will give the players confidence," said Beavis.

"We have lost seven players to Brixham since the end of last season, as well as a couple more who have gone walkabout or are injured.
"Last season's Development XV is the bulk of the 1st XV now – and they are doing the club proud in difficult circumstances.
"It is a bit of a struggle at times for some of the young boys, but they showed the sort of doggedness needed at Bridgwater to see us through a difficult time."
The Saxons finished two men short as Mark Palk was in the sin-bin and No.8 Josh Theophandies got a straight red in the last minute for a suspect tackle.
Paignton had almost unlimited possession early in the first half and took the lead through an Andy Sandercock penalty and a drive-over try for Chris Hallett, converted by Sandercock.
Bridgwater came back into the game a little and were unlucky when a pass on their own ten-metre line was intercepted by Paignton fly-half Sam Poustie who went 60 metres to dot down. Sandercock converted.
Bridgwater got back to 17-14 in the second half, but not for long as Hallett seized on a loose ball at a Bridgwater line-out to claim the clinching try.
PAIGNTON U16s were waved through in the O'Neil's Devon Cup by Torrington, who were unable to raise a side.
The Cherries visit Torquay this Sunday.
