CHRIS CLARK, the spokesman for the management company Movement in Sound, has been in touch with news of an imminent Torbay engagement for the South Devon outfit The Humanitarians (pictured).

Chris said: "The Humanitarians are back in Torquay this Saturday evening for a gig at The Dolphin in St Marychurch. This will be the band's first appearance in Torquay since December.

"They really want to rock the place out, so they're asking all local live music fans to come along to the event and support them. The band wants to make it a night to remember ahead of the release of their single End of the World on TV which is to be released on April 5 on iTunes and other platforms. The single is taken from the album Born which will be on sale at Saturday's gig for just £6 a copy. There's more information online at www.thehumanitarians.net and www.myspace.com/thehumanitarians"

NEXT Wednesday evening's Speakeasy Jazz rendezvous at the Farmhouse Tavern on the Newton Road in Torquay features a visit by the critically-acclaimed trumpet player Steve Waterman.

Speakeasy Jazz founder and spokesman Colin Hedworth said: "Steve Waterman is one of the top British jazz trumpet players, and he is highly regarded both at home and on the international scene. Steve began his career while studying at Trinity College of Music, and since then he has worked continuously on the British and European jazz circuits. He has recorded six critically-acclaimed CDs under his own name, and along the way he has also worked with the likes of John Surman's Brass Project.

"As a composer Steve has earned himself a number of commissions ranging from small group to big band arrangements.

"Wednesday's visit to Speakeasy Jazz by Steve Waterman will be backed by the popular Graham Pinkney Jazz Piano Trio with their special guest, the seven-string guitar player Tony Marshall. The music begins at 8.30pm, and admission is £8 per person for Speakeasy members or £10 per person for non-members."

AS TRAILED in LoweDown over the past couple of weeks, tomorrow night the Palace Theatre in Paignton will be echoing to the sounds of a sparkling tribute to chart and soap star Kylie Minogue. The two-hour production, entitled The Showgirl, features Torbay-based songstress Cheryl Hadley as Rogue Minogue and she's joined on stage by a full supporting cast of musicians, dancers and back-up singers. Tickets for the show are £11 and £9 each and they're available from the theatre box office on 01803 665800.

THE Park Hotel in Paignton stages a murder mystery evening next Tuesday from 7.15pm, featuring the South Devon-based Foul Players. The plot has a Flower Power era theme and it revolves around a dubious character called Maharishi Andayo Moniova and his band of devoted, if deluded, followers. Or are they? All will be revealed on Tuesday night at the Park Hotel. Advance tickets for the evening are £20 each and that includes a three-course meal. Doors open at 6.45pm and ticket inquiries are being handled by Vivien Lesley on 01803 552377 or the Park Hotel reception on 01803 557856.
