Driver has to be cut from lorry

A DRIVER had to be cut free after a serious collision between a breakdown lorry and another lorry on a narrow South Devon lane.

The crash involved a DAF 38-tonne HGV and an Isuza 7.5 tonne breakdown lorry carrying a red VW Polo.

The road near the Sportsman's Arms at Blackawton near Totnes was closed for five hours while fire crews cut the trapped driver free.

The casualty — a 37-year-old Dartmouth man — was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance for treatment for a broken leg.

Police said the other driver was not thought to be injured.

The collision happened around 9.50am between Norton Park and the Sportsman's.

Police closed the road between Dartmouth and Halwell Cross.

The fire service and air ambulance treated the driver at the scene for leg injuries.
