Driver suffers back injuries in Torquay crash

THE Torquay ring road was closed for nearly three hours this morning due to an accident near Gallows Gate.

The road was said to be partially blocked in both directions.

Diversions were set up through Shiphay.

The Fire Service were called at 7.45am after reports of a crash with one person trapped.

Three appliances from Torquay were sent to the scene.

The crash involved one vehicle and crews used hydraulic rescue equipment and small tools to release the trapped driver.

They removed the roof of the car to free the driver, who was understood to be suffering back injuries.

The road was fully reopened just before 10.30am.
