Eco endeavour leads the way
RIVER Dart Country Park opened in 1976, and the attraction element was rebranded in 2006 as River Dart Adventures.
This was geared to showing the 'great outdoors at its best' to families, youth groups and encompassing natural and imaginative play.
More than £1.5m investment in recent years has seen the 285 pitch campsite, activity centre and wedding venue flourish.
This business endeavours to promote its environmental credentials and use them to inspire. Since 2006 it has reduced its carbon footprint by over 80 per cent, saving over 360 tons of carbon and over £70,000 annually with renewable energy, recycling efficiencies and land and water management. Owners Mark and Sue Simpson said the environment was very important to their business.

Mr Simpson said: "We are elated and very pleased after all the hard work and investment.
"To have been recognised in these prestigious awards is great as sustainability is very important to us.
"We have invested in biomass, a turbine and solar panels. And we have managed to cut our carbon footprint by over 80 per cent since 2006 which has exceeded our expectations."
