Elderly woman taken to hospital after fire
AN ELDERLY woman was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire at her home in Torquay.
The woman, in her 80s, was taken to Torbay Hospital as a precaution after a neighbour helped her from her house in Happaway Road in Barton.
Firefighters were called to the property at 7.10pm on Wednesday, February 13, after the neighbour heard the smoke alarm sounding in the property.
When crews arrived they found the electrical fuse box in the kitchen was on fire. They used dry powder to put it out.

The woman was already out of the house.
Incident commander Sean Burnell said: "The lady who lived at the house had been helped out of the property by a neighbour.
"The fire was contained in the kitchen area in an electrical mains box. There was 20 per cent smoke damage to the kitchen.
"The owner had smoke detectors which were heard by the neighbour. The door was open so he was able to assist her.
"The incident demonstrates the importance of having working smoke detectors in the home."
Two fire crews were sent to the incident and they remained at the scene for three hours. A fire investigator was due to determine how the fire started, but it is believed to be an electrical fault.
Western Power were called to assess the supply.
Earlier that morning the same two crews were sent to reports that smoke was coming from a fuse box at a house in Babbacombe.
They arrived just before 1am to the cottage in St James Place.
The occupants, a mother and daughter, had been alerted by the smoke detectors.
The mother was taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering minor smoke inhalation.
Daughter Alysia Hill said: "We called the fire service and they told us to leave the house. They dealt with it very quickly and the damage was restricted to the fuse box.
"We have two smoke detectors and they alerted us to the danger. Fortunately the damage was minor and the firefighters did a good job."
