Ellie's a 'design hero'
DARTMOUTH Academy A-level student Ellie Glanvill is a 'Design Hero of Tomorrow'.
Ellie (pictured with teacher Anne Yoxall) was commended by the Design and Technology Association, which promotes the teaching of creative thinking and teaching in design and technology in Britain, for a music stand she made during the last year of her GCSEs.

Ellie created a music stand based on a double clef, which also had a holder for her flute.
Ellie was taking design and technology at GCSE in just one year — and prior to taking up the subject, had never taken on a practical subject.

She was determined from the start and made huge strides in her skills and confidence as she set about creating her masterpiece, said her teacher Anne Yoxall.
Mrs Yoxall nominated Ellie for the 'Design Heroes of Tomorrow' scheme, which recognises the best work by students around the country at the end of each year — there are no prizes, the association simply wants to show the best of the best from around the country.
Ellie was one of only seven students chosen.
"Ellie chose D&T as 'an extra' subject," said Ms Yoxall. "She was extremely nervous at first and terrified of making a mistake. However, she's the most determined student I've ever seen in my career. Having started her project with the view that D&T would be a different experience to give her a bit of a distraction from her chosen 'academic' path, Ellie's attitude changed and her ability flourished over a very short space of time.
"She discovered that she loved designing and making things — I'm very proud of her."
The association described her work as 'inspirational'.
Ellie said: "I cannot begin to describe how proud I am. I owe so much to my teacher, Mrs Yoxall."
